Redaktor naczelny działu humanistycznego Harvard University Press. Wybitny krytyk i teoretyk literatury, zajmował się dekonstrukcją i strukturą nauk humanistycznych. Autor m.in.: Enemies of Promise: Publishing, Perishing, and the Eclipse of Scholarship (2004).
