Graduate from the Faculty of Journalism of the University of Warsaw. He began his work right after high school at the weekly Na przełaj. From 1990, he works at Gazeta Wyborcza, from 2004, editor of the addition Duży Format. In the years 1995-2001 he hosted a talk-show Na każdy temat [On every subject] on TV Polsat. He has published two books: A Sunday, which happened on Wednesday (1996) and Gottland (2006), translated into 8 languages. Among others, he received for it: the Reader’s Award in the Nike competition 2007, two Awards of the Warsaw Literary Premiere – Book of the Month and Book of the Year, Beata Pawlak Award, Prix Amphi in France. Awarded by the Czech Republic with the award Gratias Agit (2009). He received the prize Melchior 2004 from the Polish Radio for his journalist work on Czech subjects. At the University of Warsaw he conducted author workshop seminars in commentary. Together with Bożena Dudko, he was the initiator of the concept of Ryszard Kapuściński’s Collection and its editor (Published by Agora 2008). Together with Paweł Goźliński and Wojciech Tochman, he established the Institute of Commentary (2009). He is working on a new book about Czech culture. He lives in Warsaw, but in spirit – like he says – in Prague.
