Ewa Majewska

« back

Philosopher, feminist. She has been active in liberation, anti-border, ecological, and women’s movements. She is the author of a report on violence against women in families and intimate relationships for the Polish chapter of Amnesty International (2005). She is co-editor (along with Jan Sowa) of the collection “The Captive Mind 2” (2007) and the collection “Futuryzm miast przemysłowych” (The Futurism of Industrial Cities, 2007, with Martin Kaltwasser and Kuba Szreder). Together with Ewa Rutkowska, she prepared the book “Równa szkoła. Edukacja wolna od dyskryminacji” (An Equal School. Education Free of Discrimination). She has published in periodicals including “Bez dogmatu”, “Czas Kultury”, “Etyka”, “Krytyka Polityczna”, “Lewą Nogą”, “Obieg” and “Zadra”. Majewska’s philosophical writings fall into the broad category of critical theory. Her work probes the current problems in the concepts of freedom and power. The subjects of her analyses are most frequently themes such as gender, the family, borders and migration, and media.

On Sunday, 7 November at 2:00 p.m. at the Hall of the Humanities Study Centre of the Jagiellonian University, she will host the meeting “Myślenie na żywo: O czym nie można mówić, o tym trzeba dyskutować” (Thinking Live: What can not be talked about, should be debated) – a part of the broader series on “the Unsaid”.
