Przemysław Czapliński

Polish historian of literature, critic of contemporary literature. He started studies at the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where he obtained the title of Master in 1986. In 1997 he defended a habilitation dissertation, which resulted in granting the title of Professor of the Adam Mickiewicz University already in the following year. In 2002 he received the title of associate professor. He is an author of more than 200 publications, an organiser of Polish nationwide scientific conferences; since 2001 he has been Head of the Literary Criticism and an editor of Poznańskie Studia Polonistyczne. From 1997 till 2001 he was a juror of the NIKE Literary Award. He has won a number of awards, including the Ludwik Fryde Award (1997) granted by the International Association of Literary Criticism, the Award of the Kościelscy Foundation (1998). His most important critical books include: Wzniosłe tęsknoty (Lofty Longings). Późna nowoczesność i nasze wielkie narracje (Poland in Need of Replacement. Late Modernity and Our Big Narrations) (2009). At the 2nd Conrad Festival, he will take part in a discussion entitled: “What not to speak about, this must be discussed” (including Maciej Zaremba, Marcin Koszałka, Joanna Rajkowska); he will also conduct a meeting with Marian Pankowski.
