After the open meeting in the Drukarnia Club, Etgar Keret appeared in Pod Baranami Cinema to announce the screening of the film Wristcutters: A Love Story, directed by Goran Dukić and based on one of Keret’s best-known stories, from his collection Pizzeria Kamikadze.
Why he started making films, how directing films has influenced his writing and how much he owes to his wife – these were some of the questions which Etgar Keret answered during an open meeting with his readers and viewers. The meeting in the Drukarnia Club was hosted by Grzegorz Jankowicz.
Polish literary scholar, Przemysław Czapliński and Polish writers, Cezary Michalski and Rafał Ziemkiewicz, debated on the meaning of the relation between politics and literature as well as on the definition of so-called “political literature.” Prof. Czapliński suggested a historical review of the attitudes of writers and critics towards the political nature of literature that have emerged since the post-World War II years. Also discussed was the political turn in Poland that plays an increasingly significant role in Polish thinking about literature.
